Best Private Jet Charter Companies – 2022 Guide & Best Prices

Sharing is caring!

Whether you’re a seasoned private jet traveler or this is your first-time researching the best private jet charter companies, understanding the many different private jet companies can be increasingly confusing and that’s where I come into play.

The travel industry has been hit the hardest due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with both domestic and international flights particularly suffering.

The benefits of chartering a private jet are undeniable, but they can come with a hefty price tag depending on which private jet company you hire for your travel needs.

At times, it might seem like chartering your own jet plane would break the bank or send you into bankruptcy, but that’s rarely the case especially if understand how private jet memberships work.

“It’s no surprise that searches for ‘charter travel’ have increased by 520% over the last 12 months,” said Naveen Dittakavi, CEO of the flight website Next Vacay. “Searches for ‘if you wanted to take a private plane’ have increased by 1,100% in the past 12 months worldwide.”

With so many private jet companies out there, you’re sure to find one that can match your budget and fill your needs while you’re on the go.

While the pandemic had a huge impact on the commercial airline industry, the effect on the private jet industry was mostly positive. In a world where some kind of social distancing could become the norm for many, flying private certainly seems to offer a less stressful way to travel for those who can afford it.

Black U.S.leisure travelers spent $109.4 billion on travel in 2019 which includes private jet charters, according to The Black Traveler: Insights, Opportunities & Priorities report, created by MMGY Travel Intelligence and the Black Travel Alliance.

As the pandemic spread, commercial airlines were forced to dramatically reduce the flights they offered. Customers were and still are concerned about their health and safety, along with the risks of overcrowded terminals and commercial flights.

The links in this post may be affiliate links.  That means that if you click them and make a purchase, this site makes a commission.  It will have no impact on the price you pay or the experience of your purchase.

This meant the flight trend was towards private jet companies would continue to increase due to the following:

  • Exclusive, less crowded terminals with private check-ins and security clearance.
  • Shorter and fewer transfers, reducing contact time with others.
  • Private flights on smaller planes with a smaller crew.

Since the pandemic began in March 2020, there’s been a surge in demand for private charter jet companies, whether it’s for medical flights or leisure.

Private-charter jet companies remove the need to enter crowded airports or airplanes, making it an attractive option for those who can afford it.

The pandemic created a “middle-class private-jet boom,” up 61% from a year earlier and private-jet travel is up 19% in Europe and Asia in October from the same time period two years prior.

As we began 2022, it is obvious that the pandemic is far from over. Some countries are still experiencing fourth and fifth waves, and there are new variants seemingly every month.

So, this year, many private jet passengers are still using private jet charters to keep themselves, their families, and friends safe. For them, this method of travel isn’t a luxury, but practicality—and a necessity.

The Eleven Best Private Jet Companies For 2022

1) JSX

Whether you need to travel for a corporate event or convention or move a sports team for an upcoming tournament, they’ve got the flexibility and capabilities to meet your demand.

JSX feels exclusive and private it is semi-private which means there are no crowds or security lines, a max of 30 passengers, free checked baggage, snacks, and drinks.

The spacious E135 & E145 aircraft offer a safe, efficient flight solution, with only your friends, family, and their crews aboard. Their premium cabins offer 30 comfortable seats with business class legroom.

And of course, everything is included – complimentary checked bags, drinks, and snacks onboard.

Where does JSX fly?

JSX flight routes are limited, with flights for only a handful of airports, including:

  • Reno-Tahoe.

  • East Bay/Napa.

  • Oakland.

  • Burbank.

  • Orange County.

  • Las Vegas.

  • Phoenix.

  • Dallas-Love Field.

  • Houston-Hobby.

  • Salt Lake City (seasonal).

  • Lajitas (seasonal).

  • San Jose del Cabo (seasonal).

  • Los Angeles (seasonal).

JSX fares

When booking a ticket, passengers select between one of two fare types. The cheaper fares, dubbed “Hop-On,” include two checked bags but are nonrefundable and have change fees.

The more expensive fares, “All In,” are fully refundable and include three checked bags. Everyone can bring a carry-on bag, regardless of which fare you choose.

There is only one class on JSX flights.

How to book JSX

Although the airline sounds highly specialized, you can book JSX tickets as you normally would any commercial ticket through the airline’s website or through its booking and mobile boarding app.

Is JSX expensive?

In most cases, JSX is very affordable. Entry-level $99 fares are common on routes with advance booking and off-peak dates, making for an overall excellent value.

Flying JSX is all about your dates and location. On peak dates,  flights can be prohibitively expensive (like flights on any other airline).

Also unlike larger, international carriers, you won’t find every destination on JSX’s map — The map is limited, which makes it a non-starter for many travelers.

For example, a recent search identified plenty of $99 options between Phoenix and Burbank or $149 between Oakland and Orange County.

These are comparable to many commercial airlines such as the no-frills Southwest. For instance, you might fly JSX for less than $100 between Burbank and Las Vegas, compared with Southwest’s $129 Wanna Get Away fare on the same route.

Of course, like all flights, popular days and periods see higher fares. But JSX also serves snacks, cocktails, and nonalcoholic drinks free in flight, with coffee and tea free in the terminal. Pets also fly free, and so do checked bags.

If you do want to experience a true private flight, JSX is available to charter.  Send your group size and the date, time, and city of departure, as well as your destination, too: charter@jsx.com

2). NetJets

NetJets, which is owned by Berkshire Hathaway, operates a fleet of more than 700 jets and is part of a global family of brands that also includes Executive Jet Management, Marquis Jet Charter Group, and CitationAir.

It offers flights to more than 575 airports in 70 countries around the world. With access to such a large number of airports (and an equally vast network of affiliated corporate-jet operators), NetJets gives travelers plenty of options when it comes to choosing where they’d like to fly in their luxury aircraft.

NetJets provides not only flight services but also memberships—making it even easier for private-jet owners and renters alike to gain access to its fleet.

Flight costs can be as low as $2,500 per hour on its popular Citation Excel series; some jets come with full concierge service while others are chartered through a third party.

In addition to an extensive route system covering North America, Latin America, and Europe, NetJets also has operations based out of Australia and Asia (Netherlands).

More than that, NetJets supports flights to more than 400,000 airports all over the world and it has more than 6500 fractional owners.

For their clients, they give them 3 different membership options. They include

  • Jet Card: This option involves selling in blocks of 25 hours.
  • NetJets Lease: this option is meant for customers or clients whose plan is to fly over 50 hours a year without necessarily owning a part or portion of the aircraft.
  • NetJets Share: This is similar to the second option only that you fly over 50 hours a year and you own a portion of the jet.

NetJets program is organized in such a way that you can buy shares of a specific aircraft and you are guaranteed certain levels of access.

You are almost certain that you will get your jet but if you don’t get it, you will get something that is higher up and not down. In other words, if you own any share from any aircraft, you will most definitely get it when you need it.

In the event that you don’t get that jet, you will be given another of higher quality and not lower quality.

6. ViroFLY

ViroFLY was created to cater to new and avid travelers seeking exclusive access to up to 10,000 jets worldwide with over 100 different aircraft types. We take pride in our ability to give detailed personal attention to our clients and offer a variety of services that make our client’s experience seamless.

ViroFLY is the leading business and private jet charter company, offering unparalleled personal service with safety, discretion, and reliability at the forefront of our business.

You can also fly on an empty leg flight.  Private jets that fly without passengers to reposition for a flight or return to home base. When this occurs these flight segments are typically discounted as much of the costs have already been absorbed.

Using empty leg flights, however, does come with scheduling and price fluctuation risks. For this reason, we only recommend them when your travel schedule is flexible, and never for business travelers.

Two scenarios of empty leg flights:

Repositioning empty leg:  Assuming someone chartered a private jet to fly from Miami to New York City but the jet is currently parked in Dallas, TX. That private jet needs to fly from Dallas to Miami – and would fly empty.

Return empty leg: Assuming someone booked a one-way private jet trip from New York to Boston. That private jet needs to return back to Boston – and would fly empty.

Empty Leg Flights:

  • Savings from 10% to 75% on standard jet charter prices
  • Negotiable prices based on your flexibility
  • Up to 1400 empty legs monitored and tracked for your convenience
  • The search box below to help you receive as many notifications on upcoming flights
  • Flexible payment methods brought to you by Viro Aviation

All prices and flights are subject to availability. The prices shown are estimated flight prices from the ViroFLY private jet flight monitor.

8.  Jet Linx

At Jet Linx, they’ve taken a different approach to private jet travel. A more focused, personalized approach. To better serve you and your individual needs, they deliver guaranteed private jet travel solutions through individual, city-specific, local operations rather than a remote national operation with an 800 number and floating fleet.

By doing so, they are able to provide you with a local team you know and trust, local planes, local pilots, and a local private terminal to serve you – all of which add up to a level of unparalleled personal service and value.

No other private jet service in the industry compares.

Jet Linx members and clients receive Forbes Five-Star service from local staff that they know and trust. With 20 private Base locations across the country, our teams pride themselves on offering highly personalized service.

As a member or aircraft owner, you can call a local number and speak to a team that knows you by name. These local teams take the time to know and understand your personal preferences, and will have your favorite snacks and beverages on hand when you arrive.

Because their local operations are backed by a national infrastructure, you receive the perks of boutique service but with the power of a national operation.

JET CARD MEMBERSHIP GUARANTEES

AVAILABILITY, FIXED HOURLY RATES, AND HIGHEST STANDARD OF SAFETY

When you fly private, you have high expectations regarding the quality of service you should receive. But too often, your expectations are not met by local private jet charters and national fractional programs.

Jet Linx has earned the reputation of not only matching these high expectations but regularly exceeding them. As either an Enterprise or Executive Jet Cardmember, you can expect:

9. Wheels Up

Wheels Up, the leading brand in private aviation, is the only company in the industry to offer a total private aviation solution that includes world-class safety, service, and flexibility through on-demand private flights across all cabin categories, membership programs, corporate solutions, aircraft management, whole aircraft sales, and commercial travel benefits through a strategic partnership with Delta Air Lines.

Wheels Up + Delta Membership Benefits

Depending on how much you spend with Wheels Up, you could earn automatic Delta Gold, Platinum, or top-tier Diamond Medallion, as well as status to gift to others.

$180,000 Diamond Medallion plus Gold Medallion
$260,000 Two Diamond Medallions

Flight Spend includes any amount spent on Wheels Up flights, as well as Up membership fees. It also includes any funds you deposit into a pre-paid Wheels Up Fund Program, though Flight Spend will not be recognized until after the flight is flown.

Additionally, all Wheels Up members earn Delta award miles upon paying their annual dues as follows:

Membership types SkyMiles awarded
Connect Membership New membership 10,000 SkyMiles
Membership renewal 5,000 SkyMiles
Core Membership New membership 35,000 SkyMiles
Membership renewal 15,000 SkyMiles
Business Membership New membership 50,000 SkyMiles
Membership renewal 25,000 SkyMiles

While you probably shouldn’t go out of your way to take advantage of these benefits, it might make sense to shift your business to Wheels Up if Delta is your preferred airline and you’re a regular private jet user anyway.

It’s unclear what things will look like on the redemptions side, though they likely won’t come cheap. When Delta Private Jets redemptions were still possible, you needed to redeem a minimum of 2.5 million miles for a $25,000 in-flight credit.

How Much Does it Cost Charter a Private Jet?

Private jet charter costs can vary depending on different factors like destination, how many people, which airport you are traveling from, and how long the flight will take.

The demand to fly on a private jet is increasing as passengers look for an alternative to commercial flights and with a private jet charter service, you can fly on a luxurious private jet without filing for bankruptcy.

According to private jet charter company Air Charter Service, you can expect to pay between $1,300 and $3,000 per flying hour to charter a turboprop or smaller jet plane, which typically seats 4 to 6 passengers; between $4,000 and $8,000 per flying hour for a midsize jet, which typically accommodates up to 9 passengers; and between $8,600 and $13,000 per flying hour for larger private jets, which usually seat from 14 to 19 passengers.

The cost for a six-hour cross-country private jet charter flight

  • On a turboprop or smaller private jet: $7,800 to $18,000 (4 to 6 passengers)
  • On a midsize private jet: $24,000 to $48,000 (up to 9 passengers)
  • On a large private jet: $51,600 to $78,000 (14 to 19 passengers).

How are private jet charter prices determined?

The private jet charter cost is determined by three major considerations:

  • Type of aircraft being chartered
  • Availability of the preferred aircraft
  • Location of the aircraft relative to the departure location and post-flight positioning requirements

Whereas the travel details will help us determine the type of aircraft needed:

  • Travel Dates and Route
  • Number of Passengers
  • Amount of luggage
  • Special Needs and Requests

Private Jet Membership Options

There are several membership options available in the marketplace. Sometimes, private jet membership providers facilitate flights from third-party operators.

This removes liability—and ultimately, accountability—from the membership provider, as they are simply acting as a middleman. Other times, membership providers own a small fleet of branded aircraft, and when those aircraft are unavailable, they look to the charter market to secure flights.

Conclusion of Private Jet Charters

The private jet industry is experiencing an unprecedented surge in demand as the pandemic has converted travelers to private flying, which is now more affordable than ever.

Business jet take-offs and landings in the U.S. are up 40% year-on-year — and at their highest point since before the 2008 financial crisis.

If you are chartering a jet out of any U.S. airport major airport, you won’t be going through the regular commercial air terminals. Most Private jet companies provide a separate airport for check-in, security, boarding, and disembarkation.

Instead of the hustle and bustle of getting through security and being overwhelmed by the large crowds, you will take off from smaller airstrips that are more quaint and less congested.

Those smaller airports can often get travelers even closer to their destination than a larger hub would, meaning less travel time to and from the aircraft itself.

With commercial flight schedules having been massively downsized during the coronavirus pandemic, access to destinations that don’t have regular commercial service or any service at all is another huge potential bonus of flying private (just remember that all domestic and international travel restrictions apply to private flights as well).
