Merridee’s Breadbasket Bakery
Merridee’s Breadbasket Bakery in Franklin, TN is becoming one of my most favorite places to visit for quaint eateries and restaurants. Merridee’s Breadbasket Bakery has been on my “to do” list for some so I decided this would be a nice opportunity to try Merridee’s Breadbasket Bakery. It is a medium-sized bakery/coffee shop just off the main street in Franklin. Although I got there before 10 am, it was already packed with people enjoying breakfast and coffee. The old building has exposed beams and woven baskets hanging from the rafters. The cozy environment begs diners to stay and have dessert. You can’t go wrong with any of Merridee’s cookies, cakes, pies, or specialty desserts. Everything looked delicious, so of course I ordered a few different things from the menu.
What’s for breakfast?
I ordered the three cheese quiche, breakfast braid, and coffee and It was absolutely awesome. The bread was really good, and the quiche was rich and cheesy just the way I like. I also ordered a chocolate pastry and cinnamon roll latte. I was very pleased with all of my choices.
Merridee’s has terrific coffees of various roasts & always offers a rotating flavored brew. My favorite is Highlander Grog, which has a cinnamon, vanilla, and whiskey flavor. (A few other flavored brews include Blueberry Cream, Maple Bacon, & Southern Pecan) Pair your coffee with a fully cooked breakfast (omelets are fantastic) or a flaky, delicious pastry.
If your breakfast comes with toast or you order a sandwich for lunch, options include the usual varieties of freshly baked bread in addition to Viking (a multi-grain recipe Merridee brought from Sweden) or Oatmeal (my choice for toast).
For lunch, the chicken salad is a local favorite. There are a variety of standard sandwich & grill options. The crescents (not to be confused with croissants) are delicious if a small sandwich is enough to fill you. The homemade crescent dough is baked around your choice of meat and cheese. Paired with chips, a frozen or fresh fruit salad, and Merridee’s amazing fruit tea (the best!), the crescent makes a terrific light lunch. The ham and Swiss grilled sandwich is just one of many heartier options.
Merridee’s Breadbasket Bakery is open later for dinner Thursday through Saturday nights as well.
