7 Important Reasons Why People Love To Travel

Sharing is caring!

Why do people travel all over the world? The reasons why people love to travel are varied. They’re also very personal.

At some point in your life, the travel bug will hit you and you will begin to ask why do people love to travel and if you should be following in their footsteps.

If you’re open and willing, travel will make you an incredibly more well-rounded human being. And that’s really the goal, isn’t it?

Don’t allow the little voices in your head that are giving you excuse after excuse after excuse as to why you can’t travel.   I have had heard all of the excuses from money woes to who will keep my kids and they all are nothing but excuses.

Whether you want to take a week-long vacation, a year-long trip around the world,  or a weekend getaway with the kids there are ways to see the world if you really want to travel.

Why Do People Love To Travel & Why You Should Too

Fear is a big part of why so many people don’t travel. It’s a big part of why people don’t do most things whether it’s trying new food, learning to swim, or even learning a new language.

But if you really want to travel, you have to fight those fears head-on like I did when I conquered my fear of water.

I mean I was horrified by lakes, ponds, the ocean, a puddle, and even the shower but I decided I was going to take swimming lessons and go snorkeling in Hawaii!

What most travelers have in common is their desire to see new locations and experience new cultures and at some point in your life, you will have the urge to travel as well.

This may be a week vacation to somewhere warm, a getaway with your hubby to rekindle the romance, or even a solo trip to rediscover yourself.

Everyone has their own reasons that they decide to travel but most people desire to travel is triggered by a major life event and for me, it was my brothers’ death at the young age of 21.

Don’t Allow Fear To Stop You From Traveling

Usually, the best way to get over a fear is to jump in and do what you’re afraid of. Once you give it a try and see that it’s not as scary as you thought you will become an adventure junkie.

This is actually one of the main reasons I love traveling.

Are you afraid that travel isn’t safe? Do a little research on the destination you’re thinking about traveling to and for the love of Gawd don’t be like me.

I have spent years avoiding Mexico because “Everybody” said it was dangerous and Los Cabos was amazing and has some of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen.

Why do people travel? Whether someone travels or not really depends on the person’s personality, their likes, dislikes, fears, motivations, or when they were bitten by the travel bug.

Just because a particular country was unsafe 20 years ago doesn’t mean it’s still dangerous now. Don’t fall into the trap of allowing other people’s fears to dictate if you should travel.

Allow Yourself To be Challenged

Why people travel is something that is always being written about or discussed in FaceBook groups, and the only people that can answer this question are the individual travelers themselves.

Not everybody has the same reasons why they decide to travel but once the travel bug hits you there is no turning back.

Are you worried because you don’t speak the language? Learning a few words like hello, good-bye, please, and thank you go a long way and the majority of the time most of the locals will speak English especially in touristy areas.

Are you scared of getting sick while traveling? Before you head off to unknown destinations do a little research once again.  Google is your friend.

Find out if the water is safe to drink ahead of time and make sure you exercise daily and bring any medications with you that you might need including cold medicine, antibiotic ointment, and just in case you have the loose booty and get food poisoning to make sure you have Imodium AD on hand.

Traveling forces us to get out of our comfort zone and challenges us to experience different cultures, different people, and different foods.

Traveling is just as important as your health and must be nourished and maintained like it is a priority.

Now that you know you don’t have to speak a foreign language and you will not die from Ebola What’s Stopping You From Traveling?

Here Are My Top 7 reasons why I love to travel

When I first started traveling it was to do new things, see a different world, learn about other cultures and try new cuisines.

But that evolved quickly and now I realize travel is my passion and my purpose in life because at 47 years old I am no longer fulfilled working in Corporate America so I am planning my escape as I type this sentence.

1. If you wait to retire it might be too late

My mom always said once she retired she would start traveling the world and that was 15 years ago. I finally convinced my mom to travel to Turks and Caicos for her 74th Birthday.

She worked hard, saved money, and now she is free to come and go as she pleases but my mom has decided she is ok with going to the grocery store and church. I can’t understand her thought process for the life of me!

Everyone believes they will travel once they retire and but will you really be able to explore a new country with aching knees, joints throbbing, and barely able to walk.

Hell, I am 47 and I struggle to get out of bed every morning so I can’t imagine how I will feel at 65!

No Thanks, I am going to travel while I am still mobile.

2. Meet new people

Some of my best memories of my travels are because of the wonderful people I’ve met along the way.

The people that shared meals in their homes, explained their culture, and whom I bonded with over cocktails are some of the reasons why I love meeting new people.

I keep traveling because there are so many nice, awesome, fun, adventurous, and people who have treated me like on my travels.

I recently traveled solo to the Czech Republic and I met a young name Eva who owns Long Story Short a luxury hostel in Olomouc, Czech Republic.

Eva and I hung out every day exploring the Czech Republic and she pressured me to eat what is called the smelliest cheese in the Czech Republic.  I would have never have met Eva if I wasn’t traveling.

Why Do People Love To Travel

Traveling grows you as a person, expands your horizons while exposing you to new foods, different cultures, and doing things you would have never considered had you not traveled.

You meet new people who can change your view of the world and other cultures.  You get the chance to learn about things you had only heard about in school or books.

How can you give your opinion or make an informed judgment on world events if you have never experienced anything outside of your community?

3. Try new food

If you’re anything like me, I travel to destinations specifically to indulge in the cuisine of the region because yea I’m greedy like that.

Eating for my family is more of a pastime than a nutritional necessity, so it’s no wonder that food is often the highlight of family gatherings.   I now plan trips based on the cuisine of the destination.

4. Teach your children about other cultures

The world is our teacher and I want my daughter to be a well-rounded human who is open to learning new languages, understanding different cultures, customs, places, and food.

My daughter Madison will learn more from traveling the world than sitting in a classroom trying to pass a test every Friday.

Traveling is constantly teaching us about ourselves, our relationship with our spouses, and our children. Traveling teaches you what really matters in life.

While I firmly believe children have every right to experience the world through travel because it helps them at an early age to become comfortable with the world beyond their community.

They might not get a chance to travel to Europe but they can definitely travel to neighboring states or another city right in the same state.

You can do something as simple as exploring the Fall Foliage in your state

Although a European vacation is off the table right now my hubby and I make the most of our weekends to make sure we are exposing our girls to different cultures that are right in our backyard.

This past weekend we packed up and took Madison and Camille to Harmony Safari Park which is right outside of Huntsville and OMG the fun we had was so amazing!

Road trips make for an exciting weekend with the kiddos.

5. Motivate others to travel

I want to motivate and inspire others to travel especially black women because it helps us grow, and experience true freedom. Traveling allows a person to experience a change of atmosphere that often reinvigorates their thinking.

Simply traveling from where you leave to the next city can change your perspective and renew your spirit.

6. Step outside of your comfort zone

Maybe you will try a new dish, take that cooking class from an Italian chef, or eat termites in the jungles of Belize.

Traveling from city to city or country to country you will find out how the world really works and what you have been missing.

Yes, you can read about Pompeii in a book or google pictures of the Mayan ruins but wouldn’t it be so amazing to actually experience these places for yourself.

These experiences will “take your breath away” and you will become a more well-rounded person after each one of your escapades to unknown lands.

7. To be free!

Traveling has opened my eyes and exposed me to what it really means to be living my best life! Living my best life is not working twelve hours a day, paying student loans, buying things I can’t afford trying to impress other people, or simply put just being a slave to the money.

If you want to know why do people travel it’s because travel offers so much value to your life.  I often ask my daughter do you want material things or do you want to have amazing experiences all over the world.

Trust me, once you’ve gotten the true taste of the travel bug there’s no turning back!

Travel Misconceptions

Maybe you are not afraid to travel, but you lay in bed wishing you could escape off to some exotic destination but you don’t believe you can afford to travel.

Certain parts of the world, like Belize and Costa Rica, are generally inexpensive. But even if you want to go to Europe, there are ways of making the trip without going broke since finances are the number 1 reason people give as to why they don’t travel more.

In 2022 you can travel for next to nothing, you just have to plan accordingly.  Start by choosing where you want to go without worrying about how you can afford the trip.

Next decide what you need for the trip including transportation, hotel, and food. Are you still asking yourself why do people travel?

After you have decided where you are going then you can begin searching for your flights and I normally start researching flights about 6 months before my trip so I can figure out the approximate cost of the plane ticket.

Once you have decided the destination check airfare prices every week by using Expedia or Priceline which analyzes billions of flights to help you find the best deals and the best times to buy and fly.

Just in case you didn’t know the worst time to buy an airline ticket is 30 days before you travel and check out some of my favorite travel hacking tips.

Layaway Anyone?

Delta Vacations also has a great program that allows you to put your vacation on layaway for up to a year in advance.

Delta Vacations gives you the benefits, flexibility, and service to truly own your vacation experience by picking the country, resort, and time of year.

Most importantly they allow you to pay monthly until the vacation is paid in full and it includes airfare and hotel so the only money you will need is for food and extracurricular activities once you arrive at your destination.

Where Are You Traveling To?

It’s easy to talk yourself out of traveling because of the little voices in your head providing you with excuse after excuse as to why you can’t travel.

Whether it’s concern about money, time, babysitter, or fear dig a little deeper and really think about the excuses and remember it’s a big beautiful world out there waiting to be explored.

  1. I think money and who’s going to watch our son keep us from traveling. We didn’t travel before we had him and now when traveling comes up it’s put on hold because we want to be able to do things we know we can’t do when he’s with us. We just need to change our mindset when it comes to travels and keep in mind that we can still enjoy seeing the world WITH him.

  2. A little but of all of those things are holding me back. I want to have so much in the bank, I need to buy a house, etc,….. But I know traveling is important, its been two years since I’ve left the country- I’m ready!

  3. What’s holding me back is waiting for my friends to get their passports when I need to say, “Too bad for you. Catch me on The Gram!”

  4. One of my life goals is to travel to new places and experience more culture. I love learning about other cultures and going to festivals. I’m always telling my husband when we reach retirement, we’re traveling. I met a woman who was in her 60s and she started traveling the world after her kids were grown and she retired. She said it is the most amazing experience and encouraged me to do it at least once in my life. Great post!

    1. Do you think that your family can go somewhere once a year? If you wait till retirement chances are you will be too settled, your body will not function the way it does it now, life happens and finances get in the way. We use Delta vacations which is layaway for traveling and I try to travel at a min of 3 times a year. I want to push it up to 4 times a year

  5. Traveling definitely opens up a whole new world to you. I think finances and “who going to watch my kids” keep them from taking trips, but as you said road trips and visits close to home can be a great start.

  6. I grew up traveling and I continue to do so. I love visiting and exploring new places. And I’m nosy so traveling is a great way to cure that. I have not traveled internationally yet.

  7. Thanks so much for the info about the Hopper App, I’d never heard of it! What’s really stopping me from traveling is my husband’s job (Army) we do travel sometimes because of his job, but it would be nice to be able to plan a trip ahead and not worry if we will have to cancel it.

  8. I’m sure I can think of a few things holding me back, but I truly believe it you really want to make it happen…I can! I just have to plan accordingly.

  9. I think what holds me back from travelling more than anything is worrying about my children while I am away. I will have to include them on more trips. Beautiful photos!

  10. Traveling can be so much more affordable than many people realize. I have to get away from time to time. Great post.

  11. Girl we are literally on the same wave length. I talked about how to nourish your Travel Wanderlust Desires…kinda going a little deeper than some of your info but initially the same energy. Moral of the story stop making excuses and start doing…move your feet and motivate yourself to travel!

  12. So many things hold me back, but mostly the lack of funds and not liking to fly. One day I’ll travel more. In fact, I just took a trip earlier this month and that was a huge for me!

  13. I know a bunch of folks who can take a look at this post. People ask me how do I travel. I think some folks just have priorities mixed up. Instead of buying those Jordans for $250 get a plane ticket. Just saying…

  14. Nothing is holding me back from traveling. I think you forgot one…I dont have my passport. That used to be my excused but when I got mine last year I actually been traveling more. I think people reasons not to travel is excuse driven hidden by a little bit of subliminal fear. People fear the unknown…so many people always tell me to be safe on each travel trip so it just means they are projecting their own fears on my fun. People need to be more open and I am sorry your mom isnt traveling more now that she is retired. This is why I am traveling so much now…no excuses!

  15. While my husband and I were in college and dating we went to Rock City, it was a lot of fun. We haven’t taken our children there yet, but i would love to.

  16. I love to travel as well but unfortunately no matter how much we try to convince a person who does not want to travel it may not work. I think we all have things that we greatly enjoy and traveling just happens to be that thing for me and you. I do agree that children should be exposed to new adventures, some children have never been exposed to a city an hour away from them. People say they can’t travel and while that maybe true for some, I do believe that we spend our money on things we want.

  17. Honestly, right now, nothing is keeping me back from traveling. I work, I have a five year old and husband. Even without vacay days I still go lol

  18. My parents made international traveling non-negotiable for our family. I had been to 14 or 15 countries by the age of 18. Now that I have my own kid, I can’t wait to get traveling again! Love the blog 🙂
