Florblanca Resort: A Hidden Gem in Santa Teresa
Dreaming of a romantic, luxurious stay in Santa Teresa?
Florblanca Resort is still one of the most enchanting beachfront escapes on the Nicoya Peninsula, and in this review, I’m pulling back the curtain on exactly what makes it special (and where it might not be perfect).
My husband and I have visited Florblanca three times, long before Santa Teresa became the “it” destination, and it’s where he proposed at sunset.
Over the years, we’ve watched this little corner of paradise evolve while somehow keeping its barefoot luxury charm intact.
Florblanca Resort in Santa Teresa offers open-air villas with private plunge pools, outdoor rainforest showers, and enclosed bedrooms.
With only 11 villas, the property feels intimate and exclusive. Dining is farm-to-table in an open-air restaurant surrounded by the sound of waves and rustling palm trees.
The highlights? Sunrise yoga, spa days, and beach walks that end in golden-hour cocktails.
The only caveat is that it’s not for travelers needing air conditioning and closed walls. Wildlife and jungle breezes are part of the experience, and yes, the howler monkeys might help themselves to your minibar snacks if you forget to lock the fridge.

Florblanca Resort sits along the wild, untamed beauty of Santa Teresa, a surf town tucked away on Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula, one of the world’s five Blue Zones.
I have stayed all over Costa Rica, but Florblanca has a special kind of energy that hits you the moment you arrive.
It is where luxury meets the jungle, not in an overly polished way, but in that rare barefoot-luxury style that feels both indulgent and authentic.
The resort is surrounded by lush tropical forest and faces one of the most breathtaking beaches in Costa Rica.
You can hear the crash of the waves from your villa, watch monkeys swing through the trees, and still be sipping a hand-crafted cocktail by sunset.
It is the kind of place that reminds me why I fell in love with Costa Rica in the first place. Nature, simplicity, and romance all live here in perfect balance.
Florblanca stands out among luxury hotels in Costa Rica because it does not try too hard.
It is intimate with only eleven villas, each one open to the breeze and designed to flow with the landscape instead of competing with it.
The attention to detail, from the outdoor showers to the locally sourced décor, feels intentional and deeply personal. Every visit feels like coming home to something familiar, yet still magical.
For me, Florblanca is more than a resort.
It is where my husband proposed, and every time we return, it feels like pressing pause on the world. It is a place that allows you to slow down, reconnect, and remember what it feels like to truly be present.

The Villas: Open-Air Living in the Jungle
Florblanca’s villas are what make this resort so unforgettable. Each one feels like a private hideaway tucked into the jungle, where the line between indoors and outdoors almost disappears.
The bedrooms are enclosed and air-conditioned, creating a peaceful retreat for cool, uninterrupted sleep.
Every morning, I would pull back the white linen curtains to the sound of waves crashing in the distance and howler monkeys calling from the trees.
The living areas are completely open to the jungle, filled with natural light, hand-carved wooden furniture, and hammocks that somehow convince you to cancel all your afternoon plans.
The bathrooms are one of my favorite features.
They are open-air sanctuaries surrounded by lush greenery, stone basins, and rainfall showers under the sky. It feels intimate and wild all at once, like bathing in nature without sacrificing comfort.
Some villas include private plunge pools, perfect for cooling off in the afternoon or sipping wine under the stars. Every space feels intentional, from the handmade tiles to the organic cotton bedding.
Rates at Florblanca typically start around $750 per night and can go as high as $1,200 per night for the larger ocean-view villas during peak season.
It is absolutely a splurge, but one that feels justified the moment you step inside.
This is not a place for checking boxes; it is a place for slowing down, reconnecting, and indulging in quiet luxury surrounded by pure Costa Rican beauty.

How To Stay Safe While Traveling
Staying Safe at Resorts:
- Research and Choose Reputable Resorts: Before booking your stay, research the resort’s safety record, reviews, and certifications. Look for resorts prioritizing guest safety, regularly inspecting their facilities, and maintaining proper ventilation systems.
- Carbon Monoxide Detectors: Pack a portable carbon monoxide detector or inquire whether the resort provides them in guest rooms. These devices will alert you to the presence of high levels of carbon monoxide and provide an early warning in case of a leak.
- Familiarize Yourself with Resort Safety Measures: Upon arrival, take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the resort’s emergency procedures, including evacuation routes, fire exits, and safety guidelines. Ensure you know how to report any concerns about gas appliances or ventilation to the appropriate resort staff.
- Be Mindful of Your Surroundings: Be cautious of any signs of potential carbon monoxide leaks in your room. If you experience symptoms like headaches, nausea, dizziness, or confusion, it could be an indication of carbon monoxide poisoning. Immediately exit the room, alert the resort staff, and seek medical attention.
- Seek Professional Inspections: For added peace of mind, consider hiring a qualified inspector to assess your resort room’s ventilation and gas-burning appliances before your stay. This step can help identify any potential risks and ensure the room is safe for occupancy.
DO YOU NEED TRAVEL INSURANCE WHEN TRAVELING TO Costa Rica?
YES! Travel Insurance is essential, no matter where you are traveling, because accidents happen, and you should always travel with insurance.
I got extremely sick in the Czech Republic and that was the one time I decided to forego travel insurance I racked up thousands of dollars in medical bills and they wanted their money before the ER Doctors would even see me.
🧭 FAQ: Florblanca Resort, Santa Teresa
Florblanca Resort is located in Santa Teresa, on Costa Rica’s beautiful Nicoya Peninsula. It sits right along Playa Santa Teresa, surrounded by lush tropical jungle and only steps from the ocean. It’s about a 25-minute drive from Tambor Airport, or you can drive or ferry in from San José if you’re up for a scenic adventure
Yes, without question — Florblanca is one of the few luxury resorts that truly delivers an experience, not just a room. I’ve stayed multiple times, including when my husband proposed here, and it’s still one of my favorite hotels in Costa Rica. The open-air villas, the sound of the ocean, and the intimate service make the higher price feel completely justified.
Rates usually start around $750 per night during low season and can go up to $1,200 or more during peak travel months. Each villa includes breakfast, yoga classes, and access to the beach, spa, and resort amenities. It’s a splurge, but it’s the kind of trip you’ll talk about for years.
Your stay includes daily breakfast at Nectar Restaurant, morning yoga classes, access to the infinity pool and beach, and the resort’s wellness amenities. You can also book spa treatments, private dinners, or surf lessons for an additional cost.
Florblanca is best suited for couples, honeymooners, and adults looking for a peaceful escape. While children are welcome, the resort’s layout and quiet atmosphere are designed with relaxation and romance in mind.
Yes and no. The bedrooms are enclosed and air-conditioned, so you’ll sleep comfortably at night, but the living areas and bathrooms are open-air, which is part of what makes Florblanca so unique. You’ll hear the jungle, feel the breeze, and yes — sometimes have a monkey or two wander nearby.
There’s so much to do in Santa Teresa. You can surf, take a yoga class, go horseback riding on the beach, or book an ATV adventure through the jungle. I recommend the Montezuma Waterfalls Tour or a sunset horseback ride along the coast — both unforgettable. You can book my favorite local tours right here:
👉 Best Tours in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica
The best time to visit is during Costa Rica’s dry season (December through April) for perfect beach weather. I’ve also visited in the green season and loved it — everything is lush, the crowds are smaller, and the rates are better.
You can take a short domestic flight to Tambor, then a 25-minute drive to the resort, or rent a car and drive yourself. The ferry from Puntarenas to Paquera is a beautiful route if you want to see more of the countryside. For easy transfers, I always recommend booking through this transportation link.
