The Best Luxury Picnic at Boschendal Farm

Sharing is caring!

Escape from the hustle and bustle of Cape Town and Jo’Burg or the great outdoors of Kruger National Park to unwind at the Boschendal Wine Farm and experience one of the most magnificent Boschendal picnics in the Stellenbosch region.

The property’s beautifully restored farm cottages exude an authentic feel while also displaying a contemporary character and decor.  All cottages have a full kitchen, private patio, access to a shared or private pool, and complimentary Wi-Fi.

But when it comes to picnics, Boschendal delivers the two essential ingredients needed when having a romantic picnic: a basket of the most delicious and mouthwatering food and a luxurious setting to match!

Nestled between the mighty Simonsberg and Drakenstein peaks, and surrounded by lush gardens and vineyards, Boschendal Wine farm sits pretty, boasting some of the most spectacular views in the Cape Winelands.

Boschendal picnic now includes two dining experiences in the form of the Rose Garden Rhone Classic Picnic and the Werf Garden Picnic.

Boschendal picnics focus on natural and seasonal products, the Boschendal chefs only use naturally grown produce from the estate’s gardens or locally sourced artisanal cheeses to create delicious and wholesome picnic baskets.

Picnics have to be pre-booked and guests can decide whether they want to sit outside at one of the tables at La Rhone or under the trees on the grass at The Werf.

Please note that the seasonal picnic menus may vary depending on what the garden is producing.

The Werf Farm Picnics are relaxed with a nice chilled vibe so there is no need to get super fancy. There’s plenty of space to spread out a blanket and relax on the lawn but if you prefer a table and chairs just simply request them when you book your reservation.

The best times to visit Stellenbosch for ideal weather are March 5th to May 27th or September 24th to December 30th.

Average temperatures in Stellenbosch vary somewhat. Considering humidity, temperatures feel nice most of the year, excluding some cold weeks in the winter, with a low chance of precipitation most of the year.

If you’re looking for the very warmest time to visit Stellenbosch, the hottest months are January, February, and then December.  The warmest time of year is generally late January where highs are regularly around 84.9°F (29.4°C) with temperatures rarely dropping below 63.1°F (17.3°C) at night.

South Africa Travel Insurance

I think most people have questions about where to go for medical care in an emergency. First, I should note that if you’re on spring break, chances are slim that you’ll be needing emergency care.

Still, better safe than sorry! The good news is that some of the most beautiful cities in South Africa—like Cape Town and Jo’Burg—also happen to be home to some of the best hospitals and clinics in South Africa.

I can’t say this enough but please get insurance when traveling to South Africa! Even if you are only going on a short trip, you should always travel with insurance.

Have fun while visiting Cape Town,  but take it from someone who has racked up thousands of bucks on an insurance claim before, you need it.

Make sure to get your insurance before you head off on an adventure!  I highly recommend Travelex Insurance.
