If you are you already on one of the other Hawaiian islands here are additional options for you to consider as you plan your trip to Maui:
- Travel there via an inter-island flight…
- Take a Hawaiian cruise that makes a stop at Maui.
- Inter-island flight.
Where We Stayed in Maui:
The Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas has 1,021 rooms spread over 26 acres, The Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas is one of Maui’s biggest properties sitting on a beautiful stretch of beach in North Ka’anapali. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with flowering plants and palm trees at every turn.
We were able to enjoy private beaches, two championship golf courses, endless outdoor activities and hiking trails, and multiple dining options. You definitely could stay here and never feel like you had to leave the property because there is so much to do and see!
I normally only stay at boutique hotels when traveling because of the attention to detail you receive when staying at a smaller boutique hotel but what I loved about the Westin Kaanapali was that I had all of the amenities of a large scale resort and was catered to like I was at a boutique hotel. It was absolutely the best of both worlds.
The Westin Brand implies class and elegance and this is evident with the Westin Ka’anapali from the open-air lobby with a vaulted ceiling, silk throw pillows, and shoji screens.
It’s a large hotel so we noticed a mix of guests ranging from honeymooners to families. Coming from a very quiet resort in Lanai, it was refreshing to be in such a lively and upbeat environment. On-site there are three different bars and restaurants, a 10,000-square-foot tiered pool, and a luxury spa.
Ocean View Guest Room
We loved our ocean view guest room, which included a large bedroom, bathroom and private terrace with a stunning view of the ocean. The villa was spacious and included a fully-equipped kitchen with dishwasher, two TVs, a living area with pull-out sofa bed, a large luxurious bathroom with separate walk-in shower, a balcony with two chairs and a small table.
The massive one-bedroom suite has beautiful wraparound windows and a king size Heavenly bed which did not disappoint. Each villa also comes with two Westin robes, a jacuzzi tub, a spacious Heavenly rain shower to rinse all of the sand away after a day of relaxing on the beach. The added bonus was having a stacked washer-dryer which made it convenient so I wouldn’t have to pack dirty clothes for my return trip.
Dining at Westin Kaanapali
There are 3 restaurants on property plus a Starbucks at the General Store in the South property lobby. The Ocean Pool Bar and Grill, Pulehu an Italian restaurant, Pailolo Sports Bar right by the pool area;
Ocean Pool Bar and Grill
Our first stop was The Ocean Pool Bar and Grill for breakfast which consisted of pancakes, bacon, eggs, sausage and fresh fruit. The food was so delish we decided to have dinner at Ocean Pool Bar and Grill on our last night at the resort and I had the whole fish and my husband had grilled chicken.
Pailolo Sports Bar and Grill
Next on our stop was the Pailolo Sports Bar and Grill. My husband is still talking about how good the burger was and will occasionally wake up from a nap talking about man, that burger at the Westin Kaanapali was slamming.
I would highly recommend going to Pailolo if for no other reason than to have the burger! I had the hot honey sriracha wings which were equally delicious.
Finally, on our culinary tour of the Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas was at Pulehu, a swanky Italian restaurant that will leave your taste buds dancing hours later as the flavors linger from the meal you just consumed.
The Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas also provides the following amenities:
- Daily housekeeping– guests can defer housekeeping for a continental breakfast as part of their green initiatives
- Prompt and friendly bell service
- Dedicated concierge
- Room service is available from the Pu’ukoli’i general store
- Guests can call in advance to request that certain groceries be stocked in their unit’s fridge (with nominal delivery free).
- A private chef can be hired to prepare in-unit meals for up to six people.
Activities & Things To See in Maui:
There is so much to see and do in Maui that our schedule was jammed packed every day. I normally don’t like to plan activities but I didn’t want to leave anything out of this epic trip.
While there are tons of guided tour options we decided to do everything on our own versus hiring a guide mainly because we wanted the freedom to be on our time.
- Snorkeling in Kapalua Bay,
- Rented a convertible and drove entire Road to Hana (with a stop at Island Style Tacos at Nahiku Marketplace
- Hiked to the Nakele Blowhole.
- Black Sand Beach
Things to Know Before Visiting Maui:
Adjust Your Clock
The Hawaiian Islands runs on the Hawaii-Aleutian time zone (UTC-10) and does not observe Daylight Savings Time. If you are coming from the US, you can expect to be 3 hours behind the West Coast.
Pack Casual and For the Season
When packing for Hawaii, I suggest erring on the side of casual. Even in the finest restaurants, you will find that most women will have on sundresses and sandals while men will have on khakis and a nice linen shirt.
Maui Is not as You Think
The island of Maui has something for everyone. It is a common misconception that the perfect place to stay in paradise comes with a costly price tag but the Westin Kaanapali is great for families on a budget. Drift off to the sound of gently crashing waves knowing that you are getting a deluxe experience without the price.
While you are encouraged to enjoy the delicious cuisine of Maui restaurants, in order to save money I suggest taking advantage of the fully-equipped kitchen and stock up on some groceries. There are a number of local grocery stores and farmer’s markets that will inspire you to add the taste of the islands to your favorite dishes!
More Than Just Sandy Shores
While your island home from home lays steps from the white-sandy shores of Kaanapali Beach there are a number of exciting adventures and activities that are calling your name! From hiking one of the green mountain slopes to tackling the infamous Road to Hana, there is a tropical oasis for you to discover.
Rent a Jeep
I suggest skipping the guided tours and rent your own drop top or Jeep. It so much fun being . on your time and going at your own pace to discover Maui. Remember to stop and buy snacks, sodas and bug spray for your road trip.
The list could go on but hopefully, I have helped you take the guesswork out of where to stay and what to do in Maui. The best part of a vacation is the mystery and the discovery, so start planning today and click here to book your reservation at Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort and Villas.
