Mother’s Day 2020 is May 10, 2020 and I am sure you are already thinking about what you can do to celebrate your mom. You might be in search of the best Mother Daughter all inclusive vacation, staycation or a heart felt gift your mom.
You probably celebrate your mom all year long as I celebrate my mom but this year, I want to help you make the most of this holiday.
My mom has done so much for me that I would never pass on the opportunity to thank the most important woman in my life but some of you may be asking how did Mother’s Day even become a holiday?
History of Mother’s Day
Celebrations of mothers and motherhood can be traced back to the ancient Greeks and Romans, who held festivals in honor of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele, but the clearest modern precedent for Mother’s Day is the early Christian festival known as “Mothering Sunday.”
Over time the Mothering Sunday tradition shifted into a more secular holiday, and children would present their mothers with flowers and other tokens of appreciation. This custom eventually faded in popularity before merging with the American Mother’s Day in the 1930s and 1940s.
In honor of Mother’s Day 2020 I decided that I would take my daughter Maddie to Turks and Caicos for a Mother’s Day weekend getaway.
Beaches Turks and Caicos is a great family resort for a Mother’s day vacation. There is no doubt that a Mother-Daughter trip to Turks and Caicos is an ideal vacation to spend a little quality time with your daughter.

Why Do You Need a Mother’s Day Vacation?
The teen years are a tumultuous time in a girl’s life. The ever-increasing need for independence and autonomy coupled with the result of changing hormones can strain a mother-daughter relationship.
Girls are often met with the pressures of growing up yet still clinging to the comfort of childhood. It can be a challenging and difficult time for parents and kids alike.
A mother-daughter getaway can be the perfect opportunity for bonding and connecting. A change of pace, scenery, and routine may be just the thing to open the line of communication as both mothers and daughters navigate this previously uncharted territory of growing up.
What To Do at Beaches Turks and Caicos
There are countless things moms and daughters can do together at Beaches Turks and Caicos family resorts. Because it is an all-inclusive resort, there’s no need to worry about overspending.
You can try as many activities as you like. If you’re both adventurous, head out in a kayak or on a paddle-board to explore the crystal clear waters.
This is a great way to incorporate a little bit of exercise into your vacation; it doesn’t feel like exercise when you’re having so much fun.
If you and your daughter prefer to sit back and watch from a distance, a glass-bottom boat tour is a great way to spend the day. Closer to the resort, you can both enjoy the challenge of a tennis match or learn how to play croquet.
Reminisce about your favorite memories by the pool or beach
When was the last time you and your daughter or mom sat down and laughed about the past? You will probably even learn something new about each other or discover a memory that you remembered differently.
Maddie and I laid on lounge chairs laughing about funny things she did a kid and we even had a few hard conversations about private matters we both had been holding onto and we needed to the air and we were able to resolve a few issues.
If you’re not about going down memory lane, you’ll be sure to make new ones here. Sunshine, beautiful scenery and the sound of ocean waves crashing in the background … do I say more?
Tip – Try playing Fact or Fiction! Look up some obscure facts and common myths while taking turns trying to get one another to guess whether they are true or false.
Another great game is What’s Your Favorite? Have the other person ask you a question and they have to answer based on what they think you would. For example, what’s my favorite food, drink, color, etc. Loser treats the other to dinner but oh wait dinner is free so it’s a win win.
Beaches Turks and Caicos is a Haven For Foodies
With over 20 individual restaurants, Beaches Turks & Caicos will have something for every mother and daughter to enjoy.
If you both happen to have different food tastes, there is no shortage of options while you’re staying here. If you’re not foodies, an all-inclusive resort is a perfect way to expand your culinary horizons without monetary commitment.
You’re both certain to love the options from pizza to tacos or sushi and y’all know food is the way to make any mother daughter vacations a trip worth going on.
Excursions and Activities
Opportunities to get out and see everything the island has to offer, abound. From family-friendly land and water tours to a wild ATV adventure, you’ll find exactly the experience you’re looking for.
Beaches also provides a teen catamaran cruise which can give mom a little (much needed) time to herself; more on that later.
If you’re visiting Turks and Caicos with your daughter and looking to commemorate this once-in-a-lifetime event, the resort also offers family photo sessions.
These do have a cost associated with them but there’s no obligation to purchase and there is no sitting fee. So, even if you don’t end up purchasing a photo package, a fun, tropical photoshoot is a great way to spend an afternoon.
Channel your inner mermaids and go snorkeling
Did you grow up watching the Little Mermaid? Now is your time to put your mermaid dreams to life! Turks and Caicos is comprised of 40 different islands and cays of which only eight are inhabited.
Right off the beach in Grace Bay is the Coral Gardens and there is amazing reef and marine life just a few kicks away. Maddie and I grabbed complimentary snorkel gear from Beaches and walked down the beach about a mile or so before we began our adventure.
I must remind you I am horrified of water or a recovering from aquaphobia. I started swimming lessons around three years ago and I am still afraid of the water so Maddie was having the time of her life as I stayed fairly close to the beach so I wouldn’t die.
Take a Mother Daughter Horseback ride
What better way to bond with your mini me than going horseback riding on the beach! My daughter loves horseback riding so I made my way to Beaches concerige desk and they set up everything for us and all we had to do was show up and have fun!
If horses don’t particularly interest you, take a look at these photos and you may just change your mind
Things for Teens Do at Beaches All-Inclusive Resort
Teens will especially enjoy the amenities designed just for them. The teen club, Trench Town Arcade, and Game Room provides fun activities like air hockey and ping pong tables and arcade games.
Club Liquid is the on-site teen dance club where kids can mingle and meet other guests their own age.
Beaches resort also sets up daily activities for teens to get out and play volleyball on the beach or spend a day snorkeling.
For teens looking for a little pampering of their own, Red Lane Spa offers teen treatments as well. There’s never a lack of teen-friendly activities at Beaches Turks and Caicos family resorts.
With several pools throughout the property, endless beach activities and an XBOX Play Lounge, they’re covered and is perfect for a Turks and Caicos vacation.
While Maddie was off having fun on her own or exploring the resort with new friends, I decided to have some much needed downtime at the Red Lane Spa.
An afternoon on the massage table and a relaxing facial was just what I needed to get in that ever-important self-care.
Mom-guilt is real, but there’s no need for that here. I was able to relax fully, knowing Maddie was nearby and she was not only having the time of her life but she safe as well. I was able to sit back and sink into pure, uninterrupted time to myself.
I suggest taking advantage of at least one of the 45 treatments available at the Red Lane Spa at Beaches Turks and Caicos Resorts.
Planning Your Beaches Turks and Caicos Mother’s Day Getaway
Don’t let the idea of planning your Mother’s Day 2020 vacation keep you from moving forward. While the idea may seem daunting, it is very straightforward, simple and 100% worth it.
The resort is comprised of several villages; Seaside Villas, Caribbean Village, the French Village, Key West, and the Italian Village. Within each village, there are various options in terms of room size.
While choosing the right room is important, there are no wrong answers here. Each area is easily accessible and everything you need for any given moment is not far away.
The staff will go out of your way to ensure you’re satisfaction and comfort. Should you or your daughter have any food allergies, the resort will ensure you’re well taken care of.
Getting to and From Turks and Caicos
There’s nothing worse than chaos and confusion when traveling. When traveling with kids and teens though, that aggravation can be amplified.
A significant benefit of planning a Mother Daugher all-inclusive vacation is that the entire process is simple, quick and painless.
Direct flights to Turks and Caicos are offered from several North American cities. Once you arrive at Providenciales International Airport, it’s smooth sailing right to Beaches resort.
Upon arrival at Providenciales International Airport, it should take just about 30 minutes to clear customs. Once you leave the airport, you’ll see a Beaches Resort area where you’ll check in with the attendant and wait for your shuttle van.
After a 15-minute shuttle ride, your bags will be taken by to the main lobby by the valet while you check-in at the main desk. Because normal check-in time is 3 p.m., you’re able to peruse the resort and get your bearings while you wait.
At this point, you’re officially on your Mother’s Day getaway and can finally relax and begin mapping out everything you want to do. At the end of your visit, Beaches Turks and Caicos Resort provides a free shuttle back to the airport.
Visiting Turks and Caicos in May
The best time to visit Turks & Caicos is April and May, a sweet spot featuring lower prices and fewer crowds. The weather is pleasant year-round with average highs that hover in the 80s, but these islands do experience a rainy season, and the threat of hurricanes lingers from June to November.
Statistically, hurricanes are most likely to disrupt the island’s tranquility between mid-August and September. Similar to other destinations in the Caribbean, Turks & Caicos’ peak travel period lasts from December to March.
- Hotels and airlines slice their prices by as much as 40 percent during the islands’ rainy season (June to November). Since this period also falls during the Atlantic hurricane season, you may also want to purchase travel insurance.
- Stay on a Turks island The inns and guesthouses Grand Turk and Salt Cay are generally more budget friendly than the boutique resorts on Providenciales, Pine or Parrot cays.
- Book early If you do want to visit during the peak season, booking a year in advance can mean substantial savings on your hotel bill.
Entry & Exit Requirements for Turks and Caicos
You’ll need a valid passport to travel to Turks & Caicos by air or sea. But be sure to keep your document safe – given the islands’ remote location, the nearest emergency U.S. passport office is a flight away.
For stays longer than 90 days, inquire with the U.S. consulate on obtaining a visa. Read the U.S. Department of State’s Turks & Caicos travel guidelines for more information.
Safety at Beaches Turks and Caicos Resort
Crime is relatively rare in Turks & Caicos (though you shouldn’t leave your valuables unattended), but as with any destination, you should exercise sensible precautions.
You will definitely want to take precautions for the tropical weather. Drink plenty of (bottled) water while outside and apply sunscreen at regular intervals.
You may want to avoid strenuous outdoor activity for the first day of your trip, so that you can adjust to the heat.
The Turks & Caicos Islands are popular for diving, but there are risks. Make sure to receive proper training, check the weather conditions and never dive alone – preferably, dive with an instructor.
Also, be careful when ascending from a deep dive. Decompression sickness, or “the bends,” can occur when divers come to the surface too quickly.
A speeding resurface can cause nitrogen bubbles to form in the blood and tissue, resulting in joint pain, swelling, confusion and shortness of breath. Ascend slowly (no more than 30 feet per minute) and take breaks when surfacing after deeper dives.
